Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera bridgesii)
This jungle cactus has dark-green flattened stems with segments joined in a scalloped pattern. They are oval in shape with minor serrations on both sides. They flower from the end of these stems. The Christmas variety has neon pink pollen at the end of the stamen. The bloom is tube-shaped with a "double flower" appearance and vary in color. They bloom from mid-November and January. Available in 4" and 6" pots.
To induce flowers - keep temperatures steady and allow the plant to rest in the dark at night for 12 - 14 hours in the fall. flowering can continue for eight weeks or more. Pinch off dead flowers to encourage flowering.
