The Pilea plant, also known as the Chines Money Plant, Coin Plant, or UFO Plant, has deep green, flat, coin shaped leaves that appear to hover on top of a thin stem, forming a dome shape around a center stalk. The plant is known for its prolific nature of growing new plant offshoots, or pups, that grow from the base of the plant. These pups can be easily separated and given away so it is also affectionately called a “friendship plant”. Pileas light bright, indirect light and their disc shaped leaves will turn to face the sun over time, so rotate it often to keep it looking symmetrical. They like to dry out between watering and the leaves may begin to droop. Don’t let it stay dry too long or the oldest, bottom leaves will drop.
