Maranta ‘Red’, Also known as the Red Prayer Plant, this striking variety features deep green leaves patterned with light green centers and vivid red veining that looks hand-painted. The undersides of the leaves are a soft burgundy, and like all Marantas, they fold upward at night in a gentle “prayer” motion—one of the most charming traits of the species.

Light : Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much sun can fade the red patterning, while too little light may cause leggy growth.
Water : Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Water when the top layer begins to dry, and use filtered or distilled water when possible to avoid leaf spotting.
Soil : Plant in a rich, well-draining mix that retains some moisture—something formulated for tropical houseplants works well.
Bloom : Occasionally produces small, delicate white or lavender flowers on thin stems, though they’re less showy than its foliage.
Propagation : Easily propagated by stem cuttings placed in water or moist soil. Roots develop quickly in warm, humid conditions.
Fun Fact : Marantas are part of the same family as Calatheas (Marantaceae), and their nightly leaf movement—called nyctinasty—is triggered by changes in light, allowing the plant to conserve moisture and rest in the dark.
