Pickle Plant 'Senecio Stapeliiformis'
Senecio ‘Pickle Plant’ This quirky succulent earns its name from its cylindrical, pickle-shaped stems marked with soft green stripes. As it matures, it grows upright and can branch from the base, forming a compact, sculptural cluster.
Light: Thrives in bright light and can tolerate full sun once acclimated. A sunny windowsill or bright indoor spot helps it keep its compact shape.
Water: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly—too much moisture can cause the stems to soften or rot.
Soil: Plant in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Good airflow and a pot with drainage holes are essential.
Bloom: Produces striking orange-red tubular flowers that resemble fireworks, usually in summer when given plenty of light.
Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Let cuttings dry for a few days before replanting in dry soil.
Fun Fact: The “Pickle Plant” is native to South Africa, where it grows among rocks and sand. Its striped stems act like camouflage, blending in with the desert landscape to avoid being eaten by grazing animals.
