Prickly Pear Cactus

The Prickly Pear Cactus (Opuntia) is a resilient, drought-tolerant plant native to arid and semi-arid regions. It features flat, rounded pads (called cladodes) that store water and often bear spines or glochids. It produces colorful flowers and fruit in Spring and Summer.

This cactus prefers full sun and well-draining soil. It is well-suited for outdoor gardens in warm climates or as a container plant indoors with adequate light. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot.
