Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis)
This succulent plant is best known for its medicinal purposes. Commonly grown as a houseplant, the Aloe thrives on neglect. The succulent leaves are gray-green and filled with watery gel used as a skin salve and moisturizer. The leaves grow in a rosette from the base of the plant and have soft, serrated edges. The flowers bloom is shades of red, orange and yellow from a flower stalk in the spring. One of very few succulent plants that can be grown indoors, preferring a bright, indirect light source. Wait to water until soil is completely dry. Available in 4" and 6" pots.
