Calathea ‘Amagris’ is a compact, elegant variety of Calathea known for its soft silver-green leaves with subtle dark veining and a rich purple underside. Its smooth, matte foliage and rounded shape give it a refined, almost velvety look that stands out among prayer plants. Like others in its family, the leaves gently rise and fall with the light, moving throughout the day.

Light : Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can fade or scorch the delicate leaves. Tolerates lower light but may grow more slowly.
Water : Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry, and use filtered or distilled water if possible—Calatheas are sensitive to minerals and salts.
Soil : Plant in a light, well-draining mix rich in organic matter. A blend formulated for tropical houseplants works best.
Bloom : Rare indoors, but may produce small white or purple blooms close to the base of the plant.
Propagation : Best propagated by division during repotting. Separate healthy sections with roots and repot into fresh soil.
Fun Fact : Unlike many Calatheas, ‘Amagris’ is actually part of the Goeppertia genus—closely related but known for its more compact size and hardier nature, making it one of the easier “prayer plants” to care for.
