Mickey Mouse Alocasia

Alocasia ‘Mickey Mouse’ is a bold, tropical showstopper known for its oversized, arrow-shaped leaves splashed with irregular patterns of green, cream, and soft yellow. Each leaf is uniquely variegated, often resembling abstract shapes that give the plant its playful nickname. With its upright growth and dramatic foliage, it brings an instant jungle feel to any space. As with many Alocasias, it thrives in higher humidity and will be happiest in environments like bright bathrooms, or a shaded outdoor area in warm climates.

Light : Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its variegation. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the lighter portions of the leaves, while low light may cause fading and slower growth.
Water : Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the top inch to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly and ensure excess drains away, as it does not tolerate soggy soil.
Soil : Thrives in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix. A blend of potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite provides the airflow and moisture balance it needs.
Bloom : Rarely blooms indoors. When it does, it produces a typical aroid spathe and spadix, though the foliage is the main attraction.
Propagation : Propagated through division of rhizomes or offsets. As the plant matures, small pups can be separated and replanted.
Fun Fact : The variegation on ‘Mickey Mouse’ is caused by a lack of chlorophyll in parts of the leaf—meaning those lighter sections can’t photosynthesize, which is why bright (but indirect) light is especially important for keeping the plant healthy.
