Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia, Staghorn ferns are epiphytic plants that naturally grow on trees. They produce two types of fronds: shield fronds, which attach the plant to its host and collect moisture and nutrients, and fertile fronds, which resemble antlers and carry spores for reproduction. Their unique growth habit makes them a striking living wall or hanging display indoors.
Fun Fact: Staghorn ferns are sometimes called “antler ferns” because their fertile fronds resemble the branching shape of deer antlers, giving them a dramatic, sculptural appearance.

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch fronds.
Water: Soak the root ball or mounting medium thoroughly when dry. Allow excess water to drain. Mist fronds regularly to maintain humidity.
Soil: Epiphytic: mount on wood or in a well-draining medium. Avoid traditional dense potting soil.
Bloom: Does not produce flowers; reproduces via spores from fertile fronds.
Propagation: Propagate via division of pups or offsets from the main plant. Ensure each section has healthy shield and fertile fronds.
