Tortum Philodendron

The Philodendron Tortum (Philodendron tortum) is a rare and unusual tropical houseplant prized for its delicate, fern-like foliage and unique architectural shape. Unlike traditional philodendrons with broad leaves, this collector’s plant produces long, narrow leaves divided into thin, finger-like lobes that create an airy, sculptural appearance. Its upright growth habit and one-of-a-kind texture make it a standout addition to plant collections and a beautiful choice for adding visual interest to any indoor jungle.

Fun Fact: The Philodendron Tortum is often mistaken for a fern because of its wispy, delicate leaves, but it is actually an aroid—a member of the same plant family as popular houseplants like Monstera and Pothos.
Light: Bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light, but brighter filtered light encourages healthy, compact growth.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away.
Soil: A chunky, well-draining aroid mix with ingredients such as bark, perlite, and coco coir to provide airflow around the roots.
Bloom: Rarely blooms indoors. Mature plants may produce a typical philodendron spathe, but it is primarily grown for its unusual foliage.
Propagation: Propagated through stem cuttings containing at least one node. Cuttings can be rooted in water, sphagnum moss, or a well-draining propagation mix.
