Victoria Birdsnest Fern
The Victoria’s Birdsnest Fern (Asplenium antiquum 'Victoria') is a stunning tropical fern known for its broad, wavy-edged fronds that grow in a beautiful rosette shape. Unlike many traditional ferns with delicate, feathery leaves, this variety has thick, glossy green foliage with a bold, architectural appearance. Its upright growth habit and lush texture make it a beautiful statement plant for adding a tropical feel to homes, offices, and plant collections.
Fun Fact: The Birdsnest Fern gets its name from the way its new fronds unfurl from a central “nest,” where the curled fiddleheads emerge before slowly opening into full leaves.
Light: Bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light but avoid direct sun, which can scorch its broad leaves.
Water: Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid pouring water directly into the center rosette, as excess moisture can lead to rot.
Soil: A rich, well-draining potting mix with plenty of organic matter and good moisture retention.
Bloom: Does not produce flowers. Like other ferns, it reproduces through spores found on the underside of mature fronds.
Propagation: Propagation is done through spores, though it is a slow process. Mature plants may occasionally produce offsets that can be separated.
